Riddle Me This

I was eating at McDonald's the other day and I was noticing this kid wearing a plastic McDonald's bib. The bib had all the McDonald's charachters on it and it got me to thinking.

I need your help people, because I can't stop thinking about this.

What the hell is Grimace supposed to be? He looks like an early rendition of Barney.

Escobar Paints Herself into a Corner

Veronica Escobar has shown herself to be the voice of reason on the council on a range of issues, especially on the recent County Commissioners Court pay raise.

Yesterday, the CCC voted for a pay raise for County Attorney Jose Rodriguez and District Attorney Jaime Esparza. Both made compelling arguments for the raise (I hope so, they are lawyers). Esparza’s salary was about to fall behind the Public Defender’s and Rodriguez’s salary was less than a couple that work for him.

Escobar and Haggerty voted against the raise. Escobar was being consistent.

Haggerty seems to have lost his mind. This guy voted for his own raise, but votes against a raise for the counties top lawyers?

Here’s were I think Escobar may have painted herself into a corner. In the El Paso Times, she’s quoted a

Need A Quincenera Coordinator

I need your help folks. My daughter's quince is coming up next August and I am a guy, so officially worthless at coordinating these type of events.

I'd really like it if someone could put me in contact with someone, anyone, even someone's comadre, that can help me do this or point me in the right direction.

I don't have the first clue what I am doing.

Vandals Hit EP Landmarks

Pendejo vandals hit two local landmarks in town recently. The Concordia vandals hit the Veteran’s Memorial in the Mason section of the cemetery. This monument is near the southwest entrance of the cemetery. Seems like its a little kid because the monument is so close to the entrance and is spray paint.

Mt. Cristo Rey’s vandal was more sinister and malicious, scratching out the Virgen’s de Guadalupe’s face on a tile mural.

Now the Virgen will be repaired, put behind a bullet proof piece of glass and wrought iron fencing. An over reaction that will put a physical barrier between the faithful and the Virgen.

The barrier will be as much of a defacement to the Virgen as the vandalism!
There is a special place in hell for people that deface cemeteries and religious icons.

More Thoughts on Governor Palin

I was sitting around thinking about how hot Governor Palin is when I realized, she looks like a cross between Peggy Hill and Karen from Will & Grace.

Funny how the Republican’s compared Obama to Britney Spears, but select a Vice Presidential candidate that has her own Jamie Lynn Spears at home!

Fortunately for John McCain he paired up with her. With five children at home, including an infant, who would be better qualified to change McCain’s diapers?

Speaking of his age, McCain is not only older than Palin, he’s older than the state she’s the governor of!

UPDATE: I was looking for a video of Peggy Hill on YouTube to put on this post when I came across a video that some guy did. Apparently I am not the only one who thought there was a resemblence. He even shows how much McCain looks like Cotton Hill (Hank's cranky Dad). I can't embed the video here, but

Republican Convention Notes

I was checking out the Republican National Convention last night (forced my kids to watch so that they can see both sides of things) and I had some observations about it. It’s a bit of an unorganized rant, but here you go:

As usual, the Republicans did the whole wrap-yourself-in-the-American-Flag bit that they usually do. Kind of a tired old strategy.

Fred Thompson delivered a great speech. What do you expect from an actor though? His speech was better than any he did for himself on the campaign trail. It’s funny that the Republicans hate Hollywood so much but they sure seem to like to elect out-of-work actors.<

Sariñana Says County Commissioners Raise to be Revisited

I have to admit it surprised me. Luis Sariñana actually called me back regarding the CCC raise. So I give credit where credit is due and Commissioner Sariñana showed some guts calling me back considering how tough I’ve been on him on this blog.

Still don’t agree with much of what he said, but you gotta admire the fact that he knew he was calling one of his most out-spoken critics and called anyway.

Sariñana told me that the CCC was going to revisit the raise this week and alluded to me that the raise, if any, wouldn’t be what it is now.

I asked Sariñana what type of feedback he’s been getting and he told me that he’s received 15 calls, all against the raise. He received 4 emails in support and 3 emails that supported a raise, but at a lower increase.

He said that he was returning calls

Mayor Cook Flip-Flops on Border Fence

Fence, wall, it’s all a matter of semantics that Mayor Cook thinks will provide him cover. He might want to rethink that a little.

Mayor Cook went from saying that we should be building bridges, not walls on the border, to supporting a land deal that would sell property to Jobe Concrete that would in turn be used as a staging area to build the wall.

The fact that the city made money on the deal is supposed to make us feel better about the PSB going against the city’s resolution?

I know, the Mayor didn’t vote for the resolution, but he was public in his opposition to the fence. A move that was well-publicized and wouldn’t surprise me if it generated some threats against him from right-wing nuts.

But in

My Labor Day Weekend

I talked to a friend of mine today about what I did over the weekend and I am a little disappointed in the fact that I didn’t really do anything.

I met with a couple of clients to make some money, but that’s about it.

I purposely didn’t attend either of the Fiestas this weekend. I think this split that they are currently going through is ridiculous and counter-productive. It’s yet another example of how people in this town would rather be right than do what’s right.

Who wins in this petty little argument? Hard to tell. But it’s easy to tell who loses. The people that benefit from the funds raised. Unfortunately, they are the ones that truly lose.

How many times have organizations, or even view entire post 0 Comments
